Global Head Central Risk Management ABN AMRO Clearing

At a glance

In 2025, a Central Risk Management team will be set up within ABN AMRO Clearing. As the Head of Central Risk Management, you are responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the bank’s Enterprise Risk Management framework. It is part of the 2nd line of defence and as such formulates an independent integrated opinion across risk types on the activities of the organisation. You will lead a team of experts focusing on the fields of enterprise risk and risk disclosures, risk appetite, sustainability risk, policy framework and model validation. You have specific knowledge of internal business processes, risk management, internal and external regulations, and you have the ability to apply them to licence-to-operate issues and opinions.

Key duties & responsibilities

  • Develop a clear vision for the Central Risk Management department and formulate an ambitious strategy that aligns with the AACB Global Risk Plan. Translate the strategy into clear, ambitious goals and define the annual plan for the department to ensure alignment with AACB's objectives.
  • Define and align roles and responsibilities within the department in support of the AACB organisation and its legal entities.
  • Assess risk identification and facilitate the risk appetite process, ensuring the appetite is fit for purpose and of high quality, while safeguarding AACBs moderate risk profile.
  • Provide an integrated view on the AACB risk profile, benchmarked against the risk appetite of AACB to enable senior management to steer on the risk profile of AACB. 
  • Prepare integrated risk reporting: Enterprise Risk Management reports. Enhance efficiency and accuracy by leveraging automation tools and technologies.  
  • Provide an integrated view on AACBs business model and strategy. Support executive decision making by providing risk opinions on strategic initiatives and projects, identifying overarching issues and/or effects across risk types.
  • Maintain the policy framework for AACB to comply with regulatory expectations and applicable regulations, align with AAB policies, and ensure appropriate and clear risk governance. 
  • Understanding of key sustainability challenges and enhance the AACBs sustainability risk management framework. 
  • Build a strong model risk management function. Design and implement the end-to-end model life cycle governance and model risk framework. Measure, monitor, manage and report on AACBs model risk.
  • Coach the team members to actively develop their talents. Carry out the HR tasks related to direct subordinates; execute performance management tasks, identify needs for training and development; periodically assess progress on talent dialogues.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the department, adapting to evolving industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Experience 

  • Academic working and thinking level and a relevant (master) university education 
  • At least 10 years' work experience, 5 years of which in a risk environment 
  • Experience in managing and leading diverse teams with substantive expertise 
  • In-depth expertise in the field of risk management (e.g. non-financial risk, enterprise risk management) 
  • Experience in working in a complex, international matrix environment 
  • Strong execution and innovation mindset, taking into account alignment with the broader ABN AMRO organisation

Working environment

ABN AMRO Clearing is designated as a specialized business within ABN AMRO Group and holds its own banking license (ABN AMRO Clearing Bank NV). Globally the company consists of about 1200FTE and is largely self-sufficient, organizing its own global organization. ABN AMRO Clearing plays an important infrastructural role in the global financial markets. As such it is closely monitored by Regulators and Central Banks. This is augmented by the fact that ABN AMRO Clearing holds significant market shares in financial markets across the globe, holding top spots in clearing volume on numerous exchanges in every region. Like all ABN AMRO Bank colleagues, we work hybrid. In practice, this means that you work both in the office and at home (3 days in the office is the starting point). You will report to the Global Chief Risk Officer.

We are offering

  • The gross monthly salary displayed above is based on a 36-hour work week, including vacation pay and benefit budget.
  • The Benefit Budget is 11% of your salary. The Benefit Budget allows you to acquire additional employment benefits. If you make no purchases or reservations in the Benefit Shop in a given month, you are paid one twelfth of your Benefit Budget that month.
  • Five weeks of vacation per year. You have the option to purchase an additional four weeks per year.
  • Personal development Budget of € 1,000 per year, which you can accumulate up to € 3,000.
  • Possibility to work from home (in consultation with your team and depending on your position).
  • An annual public transport pass with free public transportation throughout the Netherlands.
